Information on the National Weapons Register

Since the 3rd Weapons Law Amendment Act came into force on 01.09.2020, holders of a weapons manufacturing or weapons trading license pursuant to Section 21 of the Weapons Act (WaffG) are obliged to report electronically, in particular the acquisition and transfer, but also the conversion of finished firearms requiring a permit (see Section 37 WaffG). This also has an impact on purchases and sales by private gun owners from dealers. The knowledge and use of the so-called NWR identification number (NWR-ID) is particularly important here, but also for transfers between private gun owners.

A flyer with all the essential information is available for download.

You can request your NWR ID informally at the following email address: nwr-id.steinfurt [at] polizei.nrw.de (nwr-id[dot]steinfurt[at]polizei[dot]nrw[dot]de)
