#LEBEN - this lettering is going on tour in the district of Steinfurt this week. Monday (23.10.) was the start of a large-scale focus day of speed checks.
In addition to "speeding tickets", there were mainly conversations
The police officers were out and about at many different locations in the district of Steinfurt together with colleagues from the neighboring district of Borken. During the checks, however, the police officers not only issued warnings or reports, but also repeatedly talked to citizens in order to promote understanding and insight. "In the best-case scenario, we achieve that the drivers who were speeding change their driving behavior in the long term," said Jörg Siepert, Head of the Traffic Directorate at the district police. For him, the personal conversation is an important building block to permanently change people's mindset and encourage them to stick to the speed limit.
Many people drive too fast
During the enforcement operation on Monday, officers recorded a total of almost 800 speeding violations between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. There were two "outliers". A motorcyclist was measured at 146 km/h on the B 54. A car driver was even traveling at more than 160 km/h. The speed limit for both was 100 km/h.
More actions to follow
Over the course of the week, the #LEBEN sign will continue to travel around the district. Then, for example, the officers want to talk to young novice drivers at vocational schools about the dangers of accidents caused by speeding. The lettering will also be displayed at a cycle test at an elementary school and at an event for senior citizens, where the dangers of accidents involving bicycles and e-bikes will be explained.
